(Read by
Dad at the Vigil service for Mark on 7/5/99)
Despite the sadness that Janis and I have felt, for the loss of
the son we dreamed of having, it's been very easy for us to focus
on the special gifts that Mark brought us. And while they may
not be tangible gifts to hold in our hands, they are personal
and spiritual gifts that we'll hold in our hearts and minds forever.
I
wrote a poem for Mark reflecting on this. It's titled "Our
Son, Our Gift"
........
We brought
you into this world, Mark
Yet it is you who gives us new life
We took care
of your needs
Yet it is you who nurtures us every day
We fed you
Yet it is you who nourishes our spirit
We bathed
you
Yet it is you who cleanses us with your innocence
We talked
to you
Yet it is you who shares the good news
We read to
you
Yet it is you who teaches us many things
We sang to
you
Yet it is you who brings us harmony
We showed
you off
Yet it is you who makes us shine
We held you
Yet it is you who carried us through with your strength
We rocked
you
Yet it is you who comforts us
We played
with you
Yet
it is you who shows us good times
We lay you
down to rest
Yet it is you who brings us peace
We prayed
with you
Yet it is you who brings us closer to the Lord
Thank you
for being our son, Mark
Thank you for being our Gift
We love you
forever.
