Our Beneficiaries


Through March 2008, The Markie Foundation has disbursed $179,150 to support various children's hospice programs and related activities. Below are our major beneficiaries:

Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition ($15,000)
May 2007--The Markie Foundation
donated $15,000 to support CHPCC’s Partnership for Children program, which provides critical care coordination services to families on California’s Central Coast, where an overwhelming number children are living with and dying from life-threatening conditions.


Hinds Hospice/Angel Babies Program ($10,000)
May 2007--The Markie Foundation donated $10,000 to help purchase needed ventilator equipment for use in the homes of families caring for terminally ill children. In addition, we have donated $1,000 to their “Angel Babies” fundraising efforts.


George Mark Children's House ($28,000)
July 2006--The George Mark Children's House in San Leandro, CA, is the first freestanding pediatric hospice and respite care facility in the United States. Services are funded by donations and free to families who use the home. The Markie Foundation's $28,000 donation will enable GMCH to continue offering pediatric nursing care and other services to families in need. We also contributed $1,000 to GMCH’s “Fund-a-Child” program. Read more

Hinds Hospice/Angel Babies Program ($35,000)
July 2005--In front of nearly 200 supporters at its 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on July 15, 2005, The Markie Foundation presented a check for $35,000 to Hinds Hospice, an organization dedicated to serving families with terminally-ill children. The funds are dedicated towards a Pediatric Hopsice Nurse Liasion position to continue serving families in need through Hinds Hospice's Angel Babies program.

UC Davis Medical Center ($20,000)
January 2004--The Markie Foundation donated $20,000 to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento to sponsor a children’s hospice conference that brought together approximately 100 care providers to discuss the importance and need for specific pediatric hospice services in Northern California. The conference, which featured presentations by some of the nation’s most highly regarded pediatric hospice experts—including a sibling bereavement keynote—was a huge step towards increasing community and professional awareness of this specialized area of care. George Mark Children's House ($15,000)
May 2003--To help support the opening of The George Mark Children's House in San Leandro, CA, The Markie Foundation specified $12,000 for GMCH's in-house and community sibling bereavement programs and donated $3,000 for children's toys, books, and other play equipment at the house. Read more

The Leo Brien Foundation ($1,000)
May 2003/2007--This organization helps fund Camp Okizu, a free camp for children with cancer and their families. Camp Okizu enables children to attend a camp with "other kids just like them," while providing all necessary medical services on the grounds.

Comfort for Kids ($50,000)
February 2001--Comfort for Kids is a children's hospice organization in Concord, CA. The Markie Foundation's donation funded an additional pediatric hospice nurse to support up to six additional families with terminally ill children, instead of turning them away due to limited staff. More

Roman Perkins Bone Marrow Drive ($1,300)
September 1999--Roman Perkins of Danville, CA, suffers from a disease called MPS Hurlers I. The Markie Foundation's donation helped subsidize the "Reach Out for Romie" Bone Marrow Drive. More
