The Markie
Foundation Holds 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Major
fundraiser nets $20,000 for children's hospice
LIVERMORE, CA, July 20, 2001--The Markie Foundation held
its 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament on July 20, 2001, at
Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore, California. A full house
of more than 140 golfers showed up for the event, which raised
in total just over $20,000 for children's hospice programs in
Northern California.
"We're
delighted to see our second annual charity golf tournament match
the success of our inaugural event," says Janis Wuelfing,
co-founder. "We continue to be blessed with a high level
of support and participation from players, sponsors, donors, and
volunteers. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, raising
a significant
amount of money for children's hospice and families in need. That's
what it's all about."
It
was a fun day had by all, with golfers enjoying the scramble competition,
food and beverages, tee prizes, and a great golf experience.
The
winning score was carded by Dan Sizneros, Terry Thelen, Dick Williamson,
and Paul Black. There was a tie for second place: Paul
Delucchi, Don Morneau, Ray Breeves and Tom Cole; Shawn Tobol,
Rich Lang, Rob Wilbur, and Charlie Weaver.
A
dinner, raffle, and live auction, followed the tournament. In
total, more than 180 people attended the post-golf festivities.
The
actual golf tournament day, including dinner festivities, raised
more than $11,000. Additional individual donations of approximately
$9,000--collected throughout the tournament planning--accounted
for the total amount raised through this event.
The
Foundation is already planning the date and location for next
year's tournament and will post that information soon.
About
The Markie Foundation
The
Markie Foundation was established in July 1999 to honor baby Mark
Warren Wuelfing, who died at four months of age from a severe
neurological disorder. Its purpose is to raise money for children's
hospice programs so that families can receive the support and
services needed while caring for a terminally-ill child at home.
The
Foundation's current goal is to raise $25,000 to help fund specialized
sibling bereavement programs in Northern California.
