The Markie
Foundation 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Sucessful
event moves Foundation closer to the $100,000 mark
SUNOL, CA, July 26, 2002--The Markie Foundation held its
3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament on July 26, 2002, at Sunol
Valley Golf Club in Sunol, California. More than 150 golfers--surpassing
last year's number--played in the tournament, which raised in
total just over $10,000 for children's hospice programs in Northern
California.
An
additional $8,000 in donations for the year-to-date boosts the
Foundation's total funds raised in 2002 to $18,000. With this
amount, the The Foundation has raised approximately $95,000 since
its inception in 1999, and the current goal is to break the $100,000
mark.
"We
continue to be overwhelmed by the support we receive, particularly
with the participation in our annual golf tournament," says
Janis Wuelfing, co-founder. "Everyone from individual donors
to players and sponsors to volunteers step up to help make a difference.
It's extremely gratifying, enabling us to address the needs of
children's hospice."
Cooperative
weather set the stage for a wonderful day, with golfers enjoying
the scramble competition, food and beverages, tee prizes, and
a great golf experience.
The
winning score (62) was carded by Ryan Rollins, Don Babitt, John
Ford, and Mark Edwards. Second place (63) went to Keith Hatzmann,
Matthew Deveny, Jeremy Leach, and Bob Barker. Third place was
Rich Boragno, Rich Boragno Sr., Al Gomes, and Jim Marr.
A
dinner, raffle, and live auction, followed the tournament. In
total, more than 170 people attended the post-golf festivities.
The
Foundation is already planning the date and location for next
year's tournament and will post that information soon.

About
The Markie Foundation
The
Markie Foundation was established in July 1999 to honor baby Mark
Warren Wuelfing, who died at four months of age from a severe
neurological disorder. Its purpose is to raise money for children's
hospice programs so that families can receive the support and
services needed while caring for a terminally-ill child at home.
The
Foundation's current goal is to raise $25,000 to help fund specialized
sibling bereavement programs in Northern California.
